Celebrating strength, beauty, and joy in dance
Megz Madrone is a passionate bellydancer and event producer based in Eureka, CA. She teaches and performs both folkloric and dark fusion tribal bellydance, and has a great love for prop work with swords, veils, claws, and fire tools such as palm torches, double swords, staff, and fire tray. Like the magnificent Madrone tree, Megz is a survivor, thriving in harsh conditions, twisting and turning into fascinating and mysterious shapes in her never-ending quest for growth…
Megz was first introduced to bellydance by the lovely Shoshanna Rose of Arcata, a skilled Egyptian dancer and a master of the veil. It was love at first shimmy! Soon enough she met Marjhani BellaMorte, who introduced her to Improv Tribal Style and Dark Fusion bellydance, and went on to become her troupemate, mentor, and inspiration. The two quickly formed Karmaja Tribal Bellydance, a folkloric and dark fusion troupe that has been performing at events such as Gothla, Cues & Tattoos, Lumen Obscura, and Tribal Fest since 2009. Megz also directs Tribal Oasis Bellydance, a folkloric tribal style student troupe. Want to join in the fun? Megz is an innovative soloist, and is particularly enamored with prop work, especially using swords, claws, chains, and fire toys. She is a firm believer that dance props - when wielded by skilled hands - become an extension of the dancer, opening the door to infinite possibilities for drama and theatrics onstage.
This prop-loving dark dancer began her journey into the realm of fire dance in 2009 when she joined Nightshade Serenade, a Humboldt County-based dark fusion theatrical fire troupe, where she worked under the scorched wing of Nightshade Serenade director Mystikque Violet Madrone to co-produce and perform in theatrical fire productions and variety shows, using fire props such as double swords, palm torches, canes, and fire jump rope.
Megz is honored to be a Lumen Obscura committee member for 2012 and 2013, and is proud to have her 5-part interview series on Dark Fusion Bellydance published in Zaghareet! magazine's September / October 2012 through May / June 2013 issues.
